Zotac Teases ZONE PC Gaming Handheld With OLED Display Ahead Of Computex

The PC gaming handheld market continues to expand as consoles like the Steam Deck OLED and the upcoming ASUS ROG Ally X are updated and more new manufacturers come on board. In the case of the latter, Zotac is preparing to announce its first gaming handheld, the ZONE, at Computex 2024 next week.

We know this because Zongtai is teasing the device, along with several other products it plans to show off at the annual event. Details about the ZONE are sparse at this point, but Zotac did reveal that it will have a 7-inch AMOLED display with multi-touch support and a “high” refresh rate, which we’re guessing will be 120Hz.

The only other detail Zotac has shared so far is that the ZONE will feature two-stage adjustable triggers “so gamers can have fun on the go.”

Zotac’s foray into handheld gaming is notable not only because it represents the growing popularity of portable PC consoles, but also because of the company’s extensive experience in developing miniature gaming PCs. For years, the company has been producing the powerful Zbox microcomputer and has brought that experience to a neighboring market segment.

“With Zotac Gaming’s passion for creating premium experiences and Zotac’s expertise in creating small and compact computing devices, this product marks the brand’s entry into an exciting product category filled with the brand’s sheer pursuit.

Tony Wong, Zotac’s CEO, added that the company has “made considerable efforts to raise the bar for our first-ever handheld console with competitive features tailored to all gamers.” We’ll see if all this marketing hype translates into anything unique.

The last detail Zotac confirmed is that the ZONE will be powered by AMD Ryzen APUs. this likely means custom Ryzen Z1 and/or Z1 Extremen like the ROG Ally and Legion Go. this also rules out MSI using Meteor Lake-based Intel Core Ultra processor and Arc graphics processor on its Claw handheld. We’ll find out exactly what’s inside the ZONE when Zotac unveils a “functional prototype” at Computex.

Zotac won’t be the only one showing off a gaming handheld. Asus ROG posted on X/Twitter that it’ll be “live on June 2 to tell you everything you need to know about the upcoming console.”

Meanwhile, Zotac has also teased other products it will be showing off at Computex, including the new Zbox powered by Intel’s Core Ultra series, an AI experience powered by NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 Super Series GPUs, and more.
