Even big tech companies are competing for AI talent, so what does this mean for job seekers?

Job search site Indeed has collated data on job postings since 2020 and found that the number of software job postings has declined, following record demand for software engineers in 2022.

This is part of a wider trend that has seen a 12.3% year-on-year drop in the number of all jobs posted. Contrary to this trend, demand for AI-related positions continues to rise. In the six months to March this year, the number of AI-related job postings increased by 15.7%.

This presents opportunities for talented workers and challenges for companies with AI skills gaps, with 43% of HR managers saying their companies will face skills gaps in 2023.

A study by Amazon Web Services found that 52% of employees consider themselves to have basic or entry-level AI fluency, while 14% consider themselves to have “advanced” AI fluency.

Reports indicate that Meta pays AI researchers up to $2 million, and OpenAI has even deeper pockets, offering salaries in the $5 million to $10 million range.

High demand, higher salaries
What this means is that tech workers with the right AI skillsets are in high demand for the best jobs – as well as highly-inflated salaries. This is a hyper-competitive environment where companies such as Meta, OpenAI and Google’s DeepMind vie for top talent.

To further reflect this super-tight hiring environment, Meta is also considering bypassing traditional interviews and making job offers directly to promising candidates.

If you’re looking to flex your AI skills at a new company this year, then the TechSpot Job Board is the place for you. It contains a plethora of AI-driven positions across the country. Here are three of those positions.
